The Daily Slash: October 22th 2010

If you’re playing Farmville, you might be playing for the right team. Playing something else? You might be outta cash very soon. Real world legal reasons below. Galaxy news, Google TV, a couple new excellent apps for Android, and that’s just on SlashPhone and AndroidCommunity. On SlashGear we’ve got a Samus Aran Arm cannon, Michael Hedges purchases 4,500 iPads, and Evan Selleck does full-fledged MacBook Air 11.6″ hands-on review!

Bold Juggernaut Legal Move of the Day: Zynga Game Network, Incorporated is applying for a patent on “Non-Redeemable Virtual Currency,” “Non-Redeemable Virtual Poker Chips,” “Purchasing Non-Redeemable Virtual Poker Chips,” and “Purchasing Virtual Items with Virtual Poker Chips.” You know what that means? Probably it means they’ll be turned down because the very thing they’re claiming as their own is done every day by hundreds and thousands of games around the world. On the other hand, they could win the patent and shut down every game from Farmerama to Diablo III. Read the full patent claim at the US Patent & Trademark Office.
