Recon Instruments Recon-Zeal Transcend SPPX & SPX GPS Goggles Now Available to Order

There’s been plenty of concepts in the past that showcase how GPS can be integrated into our every day life, without having to hold some kind of navigational unit in our hands, or even our phones. And while concepts are all well and good, especially considering many of them include plenty of advanced, almost futuristic technology, we’re more exciting to see companies actually release something we can use now. Recon Instruments has just made their Recon-Zeal Transcend goggles available to order, in two variations, featuring GPS-based information in the first head-mounted display.

The goggles look like something of a mix of military-styled aesthetics, and the type you’d see on the skii slopes. While the goggles look the same between the two models, the differences come in the lens options. For a higher price, you can pick up the Transcend SPPX, featuring an SPPX polarized and photochromic lens. The other, lesser-priced model features an SPX polarized lens. Both models will tell you the same information, though. That includes: real-time feedback telling you speed, altitude, total distance traveled, temperature, time, vertical distance traveled, chrono/stopwatch, and a run counter.
If that’s not good enough, Recon Instruments is talking about an open API, and application development and download community. You can order both pairs of goggles right now from the company’s site. The SPPX will cost you $499, and the SPX variation will run you a cool $399.
